Evaluations
Evaluations are done to clarify physician/client/parent concerns, to determine a client’s level of functional skills and impairments impacting performance, and to design an individualized treatment plan.
The evaluation may consist of a combination of clinical observations and standardized testing. The evaluation also provides a baseline for comparing and documenting improvement according to your child’s individual needs. Evaluations are typically completed in one or two sessions.
The initial physical therapy evaluation may assess the following:
- Muscle tone and strength
- Joint range of motion
- Posture and musculoskeletal alignment
- Coordination
- Gross motor skills
- Developmental milestones
The initial occupational therapy evaluation may assess the following:
- Muscle tone and strength
- Joint range of motion
- Bilateral coordination
- Sensory processing ability
- Fine motor skills
- Daily living activities
- Play skills
- Developmental milestones
- Visual perceptual and motor skills
The initial speech therapy evaluation may assess the following:
- Expressive and receptive language
- Language processing
- Articulation
- Pragmatics
- Fluency
- Oral motor function
- Feeding skills
- Developmental milestones
