Summer Programs

-

As school lets out and the weather gets warmer, Pathways Center has even more activities in which your family can participate. A therapist can help you decide which programs may be most appropriate for your child.

Programs will run when there is sufficient interest. Contact Us for more information and watch for dates and times to be posted to our website.

Let’s Be Friends!

Let’s Be Friends is designed to enhance social and play skills while emphasizing peer interactions.  An occupational therapist and a speech-language pathologist will use a blended approach, addressing sensory integration and non-verbal and verbal language skills to help children improve their social interactions.  Parents will be included in the process via home practice activities, which are designed to optimize skill achievement and to facilitate generalization of skills outside of the clinic setting.

Clearly Speaking!

Clearly Speaking is designed for children with mild to moderate speech sound disorders.  Sessions will focus on developmentally appropriate sounds targeted through games, crafts, and peer interactions.  Depending on availability, children will be grouped based on age and abilities.

Food Scientists!

Food Scientists is designed to create a comfortable, safe environment where children can explore food and work toward expanding their food repertoire with the support and modeling of their peers.  In addition, these sessions will allow parents and caregivers to connect with one another while learning strategies to promote success in the home environment.

Write On!

Write On! addresses foundational handwriting skills utilizing the dynamics of a peer setting to help motivate children.  In this program, children participate in sessions combining sensori-motor activities with peers and individual handwriting practice.

Camp SuperKids for Children with Hemiplegia  June 14 – July 2

This 3 week, half-day intensive camp will encourage children to utilize their affected arm during fun and motivating activities with other children.  A peer-supported environment will be used to motivate children and encourage skill development.

The camp will incorporate principles from Neuro-Developmental Therapy (NDT), modified Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (mCIMT), and bimanual training.  Enrollment will be determined following an initial evaluation, preferably completed one month prior to the start of camp.

 Alert Program

Alert is a program based on the book, How Does Your Engine Run?® A Leader’s Guide to the Alert Program® For Self Regulation (Williams & Shellenberger, 1996).  This program is tailored toward helping children learn and choose appropriate, individualized strategies to change or maintain states of alertness.  Children and parents learn what they can do before a social event, math test, or homework time to achieve an optimal state of alertness for learning and participating in activities.
