“The combination of the environment with the kids and volunteers made it so much fun, the children didn’t realize they were being challenged and had a great time with great improvements. Our child is still talking about the fun he had in Camp SuperKids. Our experience at Pathways has left me forever impressed. ”

Research

Therapist and child on the balance beam

At Pathways we are dedicated to providing evidence-based pediatric therapy to all of our clients.

An important part of this service involves ensuring the therapy your child receives is based on the most accurate and up-to-date research. This is why we conduct our own onsite research, proving the value of the services we provide.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)

All research done at Pathways Center is approved, monitored and reviewed by our Institutional Review Board (IRB). IRB ensures that all research conducted is scientific, ethical and regulated.

The Pathways Center IRB is approved by the National Institute of Health.

Current Research Projects

Surface Electromyography (SEMG)

Surface Electromyography (SEMG) equipment studies the electrical activity of a child’s muscles through sensors attached to the skin.

We use the information to:

  • Investigate different aspects of nervous and musculoskeletal systems’ function
  • Select treatment strategies and measure outcomes for specific interventions like strength training or the effects of orthotics and assistive devices on posture
  • Provide biofeedback as a training tool encouraging performance during therapy sessions
  • Enhance and support our understanding of many impairments

We are designing a study to examine the effects of therapeutic exercises with cerebral palsy using SEMG as a measurement tool.

Service Delivery Model

On-going research about the care and services offered at Pathways Center to assess effectiveness of our service delivery.

We use the information to:

  • Modify and improve our services
  • Determine family satisfaction and areas of improvement

Clinical Videotaping

Clinical video software is used as an outcome measurement, comparing a child’s performance before and after intervention.

We use these video records to:

  • Document, compare, and evaluate intervention results for individuals and groups
  • Determine attainment of each child's individual goals
  • Provide video documentation to support insurance claims for continued therapy services
  • Engage and motivate children, while serving as a lasting resource for the families
